Pilgrimage to Shangchuan Island

On the 26th December, 2013, Rev Fr. John Tsang and Serran President John Wong led a group of 40 pilgrims comprising of sisters from the Order of the Good Shepherd, seminarians from the Holy Spirit Seminary, Serrans and their spouses to Shangchuan Island where St. Francis Xavier passed away.

On the way by coach from Zhuhai to Sanchui, the pier for the island, the group prayed, sang hymns and listened to the readings on the life of St Francis Xavier up to the time before his death on the 3rd December, 1552 at the Shangchuan Island. Upon landing the island, we proceeded to the Chapel of Tomb erected at the site where St Francis Xavier was briefly buried. The Chapel was erected in 1869 upon which the body of St Francis Xavier once laid. The group then climbed up a hill next to the Chapel where the statute of St. Francis Xavier was erected.
